Oni is a third-person action game released in 2001 and developed by Bungie West, a former division of Bungie. The game introduced unique gameplay styles by blending third-person shooting with hand-to-hand combat.

Oni takes place around the year 2032. The game world is a dystopia, an Earth so polluted that little of it remains habitable. To solve unspecified international economic crises, all nations have combined into a single entity, the World Coalition Government. The government is Orwellian, telling the populace that what is actually dangerously toxic regions are wilderness preserves, and using the Technological Crimes Task Force, its secret police, to spy on citizens and suppress opposition.

The game focuses on Mai “Konoko” Hasegawa, a veteran TCTF Special Agent with unique physical attributes and remarkable martial art skills. The game pits the player’s character to investigate a crime scene instigated by a monolithic organisation known simply as the Syndicate.

  1. I wish they had made a series of this video game, since it looked good..

It's from the lost jewels of Rockstar Games

  2. One of my favorite games ever. I played this when I was 6 or 7. Didn't understand a word, but still remember I almost cried when Shinatama died. It's so sad that they never made a remake of this, or anything related to this story. If I would have the money, I would definitely make a movie series based on this story or something. Nice atmosphere, great and tragic story, remarkable characters. This game and this story is a forgotten masterpiece.

  3. njir gw iri banget dulu, cuma dapet demo dari chip eeh kagak bisa dimainin di kompie gw, temen-temen gw pada bisa main, bangsat wkwkwk

  4. Oh this is my childhood memories……I don't know u guys know it or not, if u not kill Griffin the end of story will be different,Muro wont be that monster in the end and Griffin will come help u fight him

  5. I know that the little girl was just a robot, but I still could not believe how traumatic it was what happened to her (both by the terrorists and the police force) Almost had a nightmare about it .

  6. I fucked with this game hard you could put in a cheat code and change who you playing as depending on whose on the level shit was pretty dope

  7. man i got this game still i think. it was one of my first games that came with my ps2 when i got for a birthday one year when i was a kid. i still got that same ps2 fat boi too.

  8. omg… i totally forgot about how awesome this game was. played it as a kid – didnt even notice the srsly grim tone back then. Oo

  9. From Canada winnipeg… I played this game and finished it. I never knew this was bungie game. Nice to know and somehow I remembered this game today

  10. the pollution was so bad that the level design turned EXTREMELY bland. In fact it's one of the most bland game level design I've ever seen in my entire life, and the fighting system is the absolute same from start to finish. And the story… very predictable and bland. But at least the anime theme was original.

Even back in 2001, this game was outdated when it came out. Half life 1 came out 3 years earlier and I don't need to tell you about the level designs there.

Deus ex (2000) also was lightyears ahead of this.

  11. Ahh the memories. I used to love playing this game the whole way through constantly. The cheat to change into different characters made it a different experience every time.

  12. Whoa, what a backflash. And from what i remember a very strange and good game until it crashed permanently (Mac OS). 😀

It was like Virtua Fighter with a nice atmosphere and story. Control´s shooting must have been conceived there. Something like this needs to come back. Is this still Bungie´s property?

Shooting akin to Control, Fighting like Virtua Fighter and almost a half life like mood – ONI.

  13. That game messed with my handling of FPS games. Every other game means mouse up = view up. This game was mouse up = camera up. And it took a minute each time to get used to it again. I still enjoyed the game.
